Via Ferrata – Col du CHAT – Roc du Cornillon
DESCRIPTIONS & INFORMATIONS
The via ferrata de Cornillon, or via ferrata de la Dent du Chat, is our favourite in terms of discovery. It's just a stone's throw from Chambéry or Aix-les-Bains in Savoie, on the border with Isère, but above all it's just above Lac du Bourget! The views from this via ferrata are breathtaking, but there are no major physical difficulties involved. The start, called "Primevère à oreille d'ours", is a long traverse on the side of a cliff where the emptiness under your feet will be forgotten thanks to the excellent equipment and the magnificent view over the lake. The rest, known as "the Roc du Cornillon", is a succession of fun sections with monkey bridges, footbridges and climbing sections offering some great natural holds. The Roc du Cornillon is undoubtedly a via ferrata ideally suited to beginners looking for a gentle introduction to the activity, or to families. Like the via ferrata at St Vincent de Mercuze, the close-knit equipment makes it easy to bring along the youngest climbers. For a sporting day out, you can combine this via ferrata with the Ternèze Boya canyon, just a 30-minute drive away in the Bauges massif.Minimum age: 8 years

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1Is this via ferrata suitable for beginners?
Yes, the most physical part will be the 25-minute approach walk, but once you're on the via ferrata you don't need to have any previous experience.
2How old do you have to be to go?
You can take children from the age of 8. The low height of the bars means that even the youngest children can enjoy the ride to the full.
3Is it possible to do only one part of the via ferrata?
"Primevères à oreille d'ours" and "Roc du Cornillon" are 2 sections in a row. If necessary, there is an escape route between the two, but we do the whole of both routes on this via ferrata.
